Dresden Bed and Breakfast in the Therese-Malten-Villa
|
![]() |
The neo-renaissance villa was built in 1893 for the soprano Therese Malten. Kleinzschachwitz had received its own dock for paddle-steamers in 1886, and was becoming a respectable suburb of villas. It was populated by merchants, public servants, retirees and leisure seekers; as well as some famous citizens such as Therese Malten (1853-1930). Therese Malten was Saxon Royal Chamber Singer at the Dresden Opera House 'Semperoper'. Her debut there in 1873 was so successful that she was given the role of Agathe in the opera “Freischütz“. She was soon entrusted with roles in Wagner operas – Wagner himself was one of her admirers. At her stage farewell in 1903 her admirers are said to have personally drawn her carriage all the way home. |
